How many Lutherans does it take to start a fire on a rainy
day?
|
The weather predicted was not encouraging, but we wrung some
fun out of the day along with the rain from our clothes. Following
the service at the church, several families of Prince of Peace
met at the reserved pavilion at High Point state park. The weather
at arrival was foggy and moist, but hopes were high that the
rain would hold off as the kids were joyfully taking advantage
of the adjacent playground.
The sound of horseshoes began ringing as Pastor arrived, signaling
the beginning of our service in the woods. Grills were lit so
that the coals would be ready for cooking and Pastor Vogt conducted
our worship. Rain arrived along with some thunder, dampening
the coals and our spirits slightly. Everyone dug into the cold
salads and snacks. A short while later the Unversagt's gas grill
arrived, allowing all to enjoy barbecued meat.
Board games and such were broken out during the rain. During
a dry interlude, a hike up to the monument was organized. The
dry spell ended just as the hikers returned. Al parted happy,
if just a bit damp, having enjoyed fellowship at any cost.
